Thursday 27th of July, on a rather chilly night in Melbourne, marked the official opening of the first Moncler store in Australia. Their beautifully designed boutique is nestled within the luxury precinct within Chadstone Shopping Centre. Although the boutique actually opened in March, it seemed much more appropriate to commemorate its arrival here in Australia during the colder winter month of July since their jackets are perfect for this kind of weather!
Founded in 1952 in Monestier-de-Clermont, a mountain village near Grenoble, France by René Ramillon and Andrè Vincent, the Moncler name is simply an abbreviation of the village it was founded in. Moncler’s collections cater to extremely cold weather conditions while still keeping in mind day-to-day city life.
The Moncler goose down puffer jacket, in my eyes, is one of those absolute high quality designer must haves I talk about. Chanel is admired and sought after for their extensive knowledge and workmanship with tweed, Burberry for their iconic and chic trench coats, and Fendi for their fun and playful furs. Moncler is world renowned for their fashionable and expertly crafted jackets, which use only the finest down from geese (never duck down which was explained to me). Their "Moonray" collection of metallic and white hues (pictured in the event photos), were among my favorite pieces of the night. Officially releasing in September, these jackets will most definitely transport one to planet "Mooncler" in fabulous style.
Being a lover of European fashion, Moncler has been on my radar for quite a while despite being a lesser-known brand here in Australia. Mr. Mochi converted me early on in our relationship as he is quite a fan of the brand owning several pieces that I like to borrow from time to time. While being both fashionable and very warm, they also have the cutest little cartoon washing instructions I have ever seen inside the jacket. In a cute comic strip format, an adorable bilingual goose imparts his expert opinion on how to care for your Moncler jacket. It is in these small details that give the label an edge and truly makes buying into their luxury jackets a magical experience.
It has been a pleasure to welcome the arrival of so many great European luxury fashion houses to Australia in the recent past. Moncler’s opening celebration was filled with gorgeous clothes, hors d’oeuvres and drinks, and shared in the company of many lovely people who were fans of the brand. I'm very much looking forward to seeing their collections in future.
