Loving Life With Lanolips

Lanolips 101 Ointment Fruities & Rose TInted Lip Balm

When natural ingredients collide with beauty, often the end result is disappointingly below par. I know the struggle all too well with the last natural product I tried irritating my sensitive skin and causing a terrible outbreak of my psoriasis. This in my opinion is such a shame as everyone I’ve ever spoken to wants to do the right thing by their bodies by minimizing exposure to the nasties found in cosmetics.

The last few weeks though I have been consistently sampling 3 gorgeous, natural products by Lanolips and am pleased to share my successful and happy experiences.

The 3 products I trialed were:

  • Apple Flavour 101 Ointment Fruities
  • Strawberry Flavour 101 Ointment Fruities
  • Rose Tinted Lip Balm SPF 30

Firstly, these products couldn’t have come into my life at a better time. I have been working from home quite a bit recently and when I’m home I tend to go overboard on tea. It is my obsession in life. I have this special glass kettle where I am able to program the steeping time and temperature, which makes brewing loose-leaf blends to perfection a breeze. It even keeps my tea warm at the optimal drinking temperature, does my laundry, makes me dinner and buys me flowers on Valentine’s Day! You get the picture - this kettle is a tea lovers dream!

Recently I have been binge drinking this delectable loose-leaf coconut green tea by “Higher Living”, which was an unexpected find at supermarket. It is amazing! It is hands down one of the best green tea blends I have ever tasted. The downside though is that when you drink copious amounts of green tea it leaves your lips drier than the Sahara desert. The tannins are just too astringent and dehydrating! It’s not a good look, or a good feeling at all. But it is certainly great for testing lip balms!

Now cue Lanolips. This rescued my dry, cracked lips like no other. I tried so many other products I had lying around the home, for example trusty Lucus pawpaw ointment but none of them stayed on my lips long enough to soften my skin like any of the 3 Lanolips products did.

What is the secret to this amazing hydration you may ask? Well it all has to do with the star ingredient Lanolin, an oil collected from the wool of sheep! Nature is so clever right? Lanolin helps our wooly friends cope with harsh weather extremes, even acting as an inbuilt umbrella by creating a waterproof barrier to protect them from rain.

It is very similar in structure to the natural oils of our skin (like sebum), which explains why this product is so wonderful at moisturizing even the most severe cases of dryness. Like sebum, lanolin creates a waterproof barrier on the skin helping to lock in moisture. It keeps the skin feeling naturally hydrated and beautiful at all times. This is probably what I love most about the Lanolips range – how well the products work with our bodies own unique system to stay hydrated from within.

All products I trialed actually stay on for several hours with no need for reapplication. They also feel completely natural once they have settled onto the skin which is fantastic. There is nothing worse than a balm that feels greasy or sticky and you know in the back of your mind you are wearing it.

Rose tinted lip balm SPF 30

The rose tinted lip balm is naturally tinted to give the lips a healthy glow. It won’t cause any drastic color change, but you will definitely notice a subtle and beautiful quality about your lips after using it. I tend to use this one when I am out and about during the day and want my make-up look to be as natural as possible. At night if I am wearing a nude lippy to an event, I will also apply this over the top to protect my lips from dryness.

101 Ointment Fruities (Apple & Strawberry)

With the 101 Ointment Fruities, I was lucky enough to sample the apple and strawberry flavours (it also comes in peach). Both work exactly the same and smell delicious, so I can’t choose one over the other. This product is such a gem as it has so many uses that go beyond soothing cracked lips. It can be applied to dry elbows, cracked heels, to nappy rash or even used as flight cream. The list is endless! With only 3 ingredients - ultra medical grade lanolin, fruit extract and vitamin E this is a beautiful, guilt free natural product that can be used daily. I tend to use this one around the house and over night as it has fewer ingredients than the lip balm.

Things to take note of:

  • On the hot days that I used the products they did become very runny. So to avoid any mishaps squeeze the product out very slowly and carefully.
  • Similarly, on colder days the product solidifies and will melt with the warmth of your body. Depending on your climate it may be really hard to squeeze out. My tip if you want use it throughout the day is to keep the tube warm by storing it in your pocket.
  • The 101 ointment multi-balm reacts more to the extremes in temperature in comparison to the tinted lip balm.
  • You only need the smallest amounts of this product! A little definitely goes a long way, with one application on my lips lasting several hours for me.

All in all, I would gladly recommend the Lanolips range to everyone and everyone. The products are so wonderful and came into my life when I was suffering from the worst cracked lips I have ever experienced.

*Full disclosure, the products in this post were given to me as a PR sample, however all the opinions stated are 100% factual and honest to my experience.

First, you have to share more about that tea pot because I think my mom would love it and I’d like to see if I can get her that for Mother’s Day; she LOVES tea and that kettle sounds so cool! What’s cool is the ingredients found within these ointments! I had no idea that there’s an oil found in wool and that it could be used and beneficial for cracked lips! I’ll definitely have to look into this brand because since the start of my pregnancy, my lips have been SO chapped and everything I’ve tried so far hasn’t worked at all. I can’t even wear colored lips 🙁 Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you’re having a great day so far!

    • March 29, 2017 / 13:30

I will have to do a blog post then on my kettle as it seems like a lot of people made reference to it.

It is the Breville Tea Maker (link below for you). It is on the expensive side, but I use it numerous times daily and now my tea never gets wasted because it was brewed at the wrong temperature. I’ve had it for 2 years now. The pot is also glass, which is great as I don’t trust plastic kettles BPA free or not.

I’m glad you enjoyed my review btw. I really loved researching the ingredients and writing it up 🙂 You’ll have to try the Lanolips range for your chapped lips. I’m sure it will help so much. It’s also handy to know that it is sold on Net-a-Porter if you can’t find a physical stockist.

I haven’t had the same one as you but we have a coconut green tea in the supermarket here. It’s just tea bags but it’s so good! & how good are Lanolips? I wanted to get all the flavours but had to stop myself haha It’s so annoying when natural products irritate your skin! It’s also kind of ironic. Especially when natural is supposed to be better!

    • March 29, 2017 / 13:16

That sounds so yum Shannon! Coconut green tea is so delicious when you find a great blend. Mine is actually loose leaf but it works for me as I have my fancy kettle haha!

OH yes, totally agree! Lanolips is just fantastic stuff! I think I am tempted to get all of the flavours too. It is that good!

It is such a shame that a lot of natural cosmetics are so irritating. I tried the natural foundation by Ere Perez and it seriously make me break out in ugly red patches of psoriasis all over my face. I would definitely not recommend them to people with sensitive skin. Experiences like that make me so hesitant to try new natural make-up products.
