House of Maxx – Melbourne’s Premier Natural Beauty Salon

House Maxx High Street Armadale Beauty Natural Salon

Nestled amongst the luxury boutiques of High Street, Armadale is House of Maxx, a premier salon which offers clients a holistic approach to skincare and beauty therapy.  Makayla Herdman, the owner and director, believes beauty should be approached from the inside out - a philosophy that resonates deeply with me as a nearly qualified naturopath. After all, it is most often the foods we consume and the habits that form our daily routines that wreak the most havoc on our skin and overall appearance. You would be hard pressed to find many local salons that work alongside dieticians and other holistic practitioners to empower and enable their clients to address the root cause of their beauty concerns or implement a healthier lifestyle rather than relying on the band-aid approach of product alone.

As you would expect with such a premium salon, it's in the little details. The minute I walked into the space I was welcomed by the friendly staff and poured a lovely cup of organic tea as I filled out my personal details. For the facial, the consultation began with obtaining a brief medical history, while looking at my current skin regime. This was then followed by an in depth look at my skin barrier using a special machine which analyzes and ascertains many details regarding the current health of my skin. The results were then shown using a visual map of my face, giving invaluable information regarding my hydration levels, oil flow and how my skin will age in 20 years time if I don't properly care for it. While quite eye opening, this is also useful for your therapist to know. All of this information is then used to create a custom facial to suit any individual skin concerns you may have. When some salons state that they offer customization, usually there might be a few cleaners or items from each product category to choose from. Custom at House of Maxx though is truly a unique experience as they have base creams, nutritionals and herbal extracts which they combine to create a completely personalized and natural facial experience for you. There is also the option of allowing your therapist to create a take home skincare range to suit your personal concerns if you so desire. I haven't tried this yet as I have quite a stash of skincare products at home, however it does sound very appealing.

The facial itself was so enjoyable that time just flew by. You are definitely in very good hands as all of the staff are highly trained, attentive and execute such care during the consultation. The treatment rooms are spacious, sun drenched and beautifully decorated and the bed is so warm and inviting that it makes leaving the worst thing about the whole experience.
As for the results - I came into the salon with some bad breakouts due to stress. Those who saw my stories on Instagram may have seen some photos. Just 36 hours after the treatment, they were completely gone and my skin is now feeling so soft and amazing. I am so impressed with House of Maxx that I can't wait to go back again very soon.

If this is the future of skin care, I am really excited! I love that they took time to review your medical history and skin barrier. I too believe that skin health comes from what we put into our body as much or more than what we put on our body. Thank you for sharing all this! Xo, Ellese

I really like it for the same reasons. There are so many factors that contribute to the health of your skin.

      Take care Ellese 🙂

WOW! I think I need to fly to Melbourne to visit this salon before I “have my days”. I suffer from bad breakouts.

You make a great point about it being ‘in the details’ – this is truly what sets apart some places from the rest! Your photos of this place are so professional, by the way!

Sounds like such a fabulous experience! I actually just had an appointment this week with a place called the Skin Girls in Vancouver for my initial consultation as I’ve been having some terrible breakouts lately. It’s like my hormones completely changed over night and so has my skin. I have a facial booked for the end of this month and I can’t wait!

House of Maxx looks like a really neat salon! I agree with you; the foods we eat affect our skin big time! Glad to hear that you got your value’s worth at the salon. I totally want to go to one of them some day!

This sounds fun. Shop looks so fresh, would be hard for me to leave that salon too.
