I love the excitement of sourcing quality pieces that are yet to be discovered by the fashionable crowd on Instagram. It’s fun to be different! This is why I was so excited when I was presented with the opportunity to work with Hoola Hoola as they launch in Australia. They are a specialty bag brand designed in a beautiful town near the “city of love” a.k.a Venice. As expected from an Italian design, the bags are wonderfully fashion forward and beautifully crafted.

When I first unboxed the pieces I was blown away with the extent of the craftsmanship. This is no easy feat either as those of you who know me know that I have an extensive designer handbag collection from the likes of Dior, Chanel, Valentino and Fendi. When you usually carry bags from such prestigious designers, it’s hard to be impressed by other bags. Despite this, Hoola Hoola made me gasp when I opened their beautifully packaged parcels. While unboxing, I saw the label affixed to some of the leather pieces and it read “Made in Italy”. The craftsmanship of the flowers and bag straps are definitely up there with the best of the best. This is a testament to the amazing quality of Italian design. I anticipate that this brand is going to take Australia (and the world) by storm.

Hoola Hoola's designs are unique because they can be customised in various way. This is what made me fall in love with the brand and is what I will be focusing on in this blog post. If you are a more visual person, I will also be creating a special folder in my Instagram story highlights called “Hoola Hoola”. Content will be uploaded here over the next couple of weeks so keep watching that space. I plan to share my mini unboxing, video reviews, modeling shots, customization tutorials and comparison videos . I think many of you designer handbag lovers will also be extremely interested to see how the quality of my Hoola Hoola “flower snaps-ons” eclipses that of my Fendi flowerland belt. I think Hoola Hoola's flowers are made a lot better but shhh don't tell Karl! Please be sure to stay tuned to my highlights.

Before I speak more on the customization aspect, I want to share a little more information about the bag and strap designs. In a nutshell, Hoola Hoola create the coolest modular handbags from a special resin. It’s a very interesting material as it’s durable, light and low maintenance. What is so unique about their products is that they allow for complete customization by letting you choose your own strap, handle, hardware and interior colors or designs. And best of all you can assemble and disassemble the bags, interchange pieces and create new combinations by buying additional spare parts. It’s so ingenious. Check out my Instagram highlights to see more.

The Hoola Hoola range currently boasts of three fashion forward styles – the Camilla, Chiara and Alma. Each bag design has its own unique look and charm and all of them are completely adorable. Furthermore, Hoola Hoola has the cutest range of bag straps! Whilst the straps are designed to be paired with their bag range, they are also completely interchangeable and wearable with any other designer bags you have in your collection. I am completely obsessed with “snap straps” and “flower snap-ons” because you can create an endless amount of looks with just one strap!  Hoola Hoola are innovating bag and bag accessory customization. Their products are unlike anything you have ever seen before.

The Alma

The Alma is a beautiful tote design that can also be worn hands-free through the attachment of a strap. The modular frame gives it a sophisticated feel, however when you pair it with a flower strap or a customization option called a “frou frou” it instantly creates an element of fun (see pictures below). The design is very roomy making it the perfect bag for uni or days at the beach. In terms of size it can comfortably house my 13 inch MacBook Pro, a small water bottle, some notebooks and a sweater. I really love it!

As the bag frame is crafted from environmentally friendly resin, it fares well in all weather conditions. It is waterproof and completely washable too. I love that if you take this tote with you on a beach day and it gets a little dirty, all you need is to give it a little wipe down and it looks as good as new. Low maintenance bags are the bomb!

I find that the Alma offers the greatest flexibility in terms of customization. You can select your preferred frame colour, handles, twists, in-bags, frou frous and straps to create a bag that truly reflects your style. I have summarized what each option is below as it may be a little confusing when you’re coming across this info for the first time.

The Anatomy of the "Alma Bag"

Frame: This is the resin base of the bag. The frame can be customized by selecting your preferred colour option.

In-bag: This piece makes up the interior of the bag. It sits inside the resin base and can be customized by selecting your preferred colour option.

Handles: These are made from 100% leather. Again you can customize these by selecting your favourite colour combo.

Frou Frou: This is a decorative element that adorns the top part of the bag. My bag pictured in look 2 below has a faux fur frou frou attached for a touch of glamour. There are a few different fabrics and textures to choose from and they make a remarkable difference to the overall look of the bag.

Twists: These important pieces of hardware attach the handles, in-bag and frou frou to the frame of the bag. You can choose either metal or plastic options in various colours depending on the look you want.

Straps: This is the final element to the Alma. You can choose between a plain leather shoulder strap which comes in a variety of colour combinations, or a snap-strap that you can attach flowers onto. Otherwise if you prefer to wear the Alma hand-held, you can tote-ally choose to go without this option.

The Chiara

The Chiara is a beautiful satchel that can exude a quirky, modern or even boho vibe depending on the options you select. It can be customized by changing the colour of the frame, the strap style or by selecting between a vintage calf leather, fur or woven “in bag”. It's a great medium sized bag and is perfect for brunch outings or days when you hit the shops. I find it fits all the essentials with a little room to spare. It easily houses a phone, coin pouch, large wallet, breath mints, small cosmetics and a diary. The Chiara has the best of both worlds when compared to the Alma and Camilla (discussed below). It has the widest range of strap options as it looks good with both the thin strap styles offered by Hoola Hoola or the thick shoulder straps discussed previously. Furthermore, you can get creative with the thick shoulder straps and use two of them to turn the Camilla into a cute backpack (see pictures).

Frame: This is the resin base of the bag. The frame can be customized by selecting your preferred colour option.

In-bag: This piece makes up the interior and flap of the bag. It sits inside the resin base and can be customized by selecting your preferred fabric and colour option.

Straps: This is the final element to the Chiara. You have 2 options for straps - either a thin style with a longer drop or the thicker shoulder straps. The shoulder straps can be selected in either plain leather or in the snap-strap style so you can attach leather flowers.

Camilla

The final style in the range is called the Camilla. It might be the tiniest Hoola Hoola bag, however remember good things come in small packages! This style is perfect for evening events when all you need to carry is your phone, a lippy and of course your cards or cash. If you’re low maintenance like me, you’ll probably find it perfect for mundane Mondays. This is the name I give to those typical boring weekdays where you need to run errands or do grocery shopping and you don’t need a large bag getting in the way.

The Camilla can be customized by changing the frame colour, strap style and in-bag. Hoola Hoola recommends using their thin strap options (tubular, scubidu or snake chain) with this bag, however I find that it looks really great with a thick flower strap too. The “in-bag” choice has the most dramatic effect on the overall appearance of the bag. I really like the faux fur style ones because they make the bag look super glamorous and chic. See below for more inspiration.

Frame: This is the resin base of the bag. The frame can be customized by selecting your preferred colour option.

In-bag: This piece makes up the interior and in some instances the flap of the bag. It sits inside the resin base and can be customized by selecting your preferred fabric and colour option.

Straps: This is the final element to the Camilla. Hoola Hoola recommends the thin strap for this bag as it has a longer drop length and sits nicely cross body. The thin style comes in silver snake chain, tubular or scubidu options, allowing you to mix it up. I also love styling the flower shoulder strap with this bag. It looks great, however it does sit a little higher cross body which may not suit all body types.

Straps

Finally, the last area I wanted to talk about regards the straps. I've spoken about them a little already, however since they are such a huge part of the Hoola Hoola line they deserve their own section. As mentioned previously, Hoola Hoola offers both a thin and thick strap style. The thin strap style's dimensions are 120cm x 0.7cm (including metal hooks in measurement). The thick strap style is shorter by 30cm as the measurements are 90cm x 4cm.

In terms of options for the thin straps, currently Hoola Hoola offers three styles (snake chain, scubidu or tubular). The metal silver snake chain is one of my favourites as it's a great neutral and matches any bag colour combination. If you are unsure of what strap to buy for your first Camilla bag, I would recommend starting with this one. I also like the scubidu style which is a leather woven strap that adds a fun touch to the bag. I have one in colour "pinky" which you will see below. It adds a cute pop of colour and really compliments my "eggshell white" and "pink punch" Camilla bags perfectly. Finally, the third style, the tubular strap, is a tube-like leather strap comprised of two contrasting colour tones. These straps are very well made and definitely worth looking into as well.

Now onto the shoulder straps! This is probably the item you have all been waiting to read about. There are currently two styles offered (plain strap or snap-strap) and they come in a great selection of colours. It's no secret that my favourite product from the whole Hoola Hoola line is the snap-strap with the snap-on flowers. The snap-strap has a press stud mechanism which allows you to attach Hoola Hoola's beautiful selection of leather snap-on flowers. The idea is ingenious as you can can create so many looks with just one strap! It makes wanting additional colourways and combinations more affordable. Not to mention it also helps to optimise your wardrobe space. See below for more pictures.
