This past Wednesday, as many of you may already be aware, I was invited to a special showcasing of Fendi's Fall/Winter Fur Collection. The private viewing was fittingly held at the sumptuous fine dining location of Grossi Florentino Upstairs. It was an unforgettable experience, and one I feel privileged to have attended.
Surrounded by old-school opulence that reminded me of the lavish and sophisticated ballrooms of Italy in the Renaissance period, the venue was perfect for showcasing the most exquisitely crafted furs available in the world. As the Fendi models turned the heads of all the women in attendance, I imagined such pieces belonging on an elegant and stately woman. One who could gracefully glide across a ballroom, dancing in perfect accord to the melody of a Viennese Waltz.
The rather intimate gathering of 40 or so women commenced with a delectable four course lunch. As to be expected, the dishes presented before us were edible art, with the generosity of flavour that is to be expected from such an esteemed world class Italian restaurant as Grossi Florentino. The dish which stole my heart was the perfectly al dente ravioli, garnished with a thin sliver of crispy guanciale. Although seemingly innocent in it's simplistic presentation, encased inside each raviolo was a bright yolk delicately infused with the flavours of parmigiano reggiano and guanciale. Upon slicing into each casing, a golden stream of yolk oozed out in the most theatrical of manners.
Following the exceptional savory courses was the presentation of Fendi's Fall/Winter Fur Collection. As the models showcased 8 of the 40 total looks, I was instantly transported back in time to the old school glamour of Italian high society. Words cannot describe how enchanting and magical the movements of the garments were as the models sauntered with ease around the tables, inviting us to observe the exquisite Fendi creations in the closest detail.
An exceptionally light yet creamy tiramisu creation by Grossi Florentino marked the end of the exclusive showing. As we bid adieu to the lovely women in attendance the flower arrangements that had adorned the tables were delicately wrapped in tissue paper and presented to us as a thoughtful parting gift in the iconic Fendi shopping bag.
An intimate luncheon quietly tucked away within the bustling city of Melbourne transported all in attendance to another world. This luncheon served as the premiere showcasing of such an extensive range of Fendi's furs within Australia. Melbourne's recent frosty weather and overall fashion sense provided quite the environment to host such an event. In comparison to some of our other major cities we are quite European in our architecture, culinary culture and style identity.
For those living or visiting Melbourne who wish to peruse such a fur collection, the Chadstone Fendi boutique is showcasing these beautiful creations until June 30. For those who adore high fashion in its many forms and are partial to fur pieces this is a remarkable opportunity.
Until next time,
