For quite a long time, I wouldn't even know where to begin when answering the question “what is your style?”. It was one that would have me scrambling around in my head, doing brain acrobatics, to come up with an answer that sounded even semi coherent and intelligent. After a lot of thought though, especially now that I am more involved in fashion than ever, I have come to the conclusion that this question was always so hard to answer because I simply operate differently to quite a lot of people.

My style is not something that can be put in a box. I am not a monochrome girl, a layering addict, an elegant dresser, colour enthusiast, master of grunge or preppy princess. In fact I can be each of these things and much, much more. I can be anything I want, because I am a fashion chameleon * who knows no bounds!

The way I dress depends on the way I am feeling, where I am going and what my latest obsessions are. I can be inspired by a persona or character, the girl next door, my cat, a film, a fashion runway or Anna Dello Russo’s street style. It is random and illogical but that’s me!

The fashion pieces I am drawn to 90% of the time allow me to tell a story with what I am wearing. Usually I go with one really outstanding statement piece rich in detail, whether it is an amazing pair of shoes, a Chanel minaudière or an interesting sweater. This statement piece transforms into the leading lady of the day’s outfit, while all of the other details are the supporting cast members who go about their role without dominating the look. Just like how no two stories are exactly the same, the way I dress can also change both dramatically or subtly on a daily basis.

There is one thing however that will always remain consistent with my “style”. I will always select clothes that flatter my body shape and I will additionally tailor any items to ensure a great fit. There is almost nothing worse in the fashion world than ill-fitting clothes. This alone will instantly ruin even the most expensive of cuts!

Today’s fashion look is inspired by Enid Blyton’s “The Naughtiest Girl in the School” series. It is about a spoiled girl named Elizabeth Allen, who is sent to an elite boarding school and tries her best to be expelled by pulling mischievous stunts. While I was nothing like Elizabeth in school myself, it was sure fun to take on her persona wearing a cheeky, short tennis skirt with a sporty Gucci varsity sweater. The location definitely helped me to get into her persona too.

*Btw for those wondering, “ fashion chameleon ” is a term that was stolen from my friend Olivia, who is definitely one herself.

Love, love, love this post. Did you know my previous username before World Wide Whitney on Insta was in fact Fashion Chameleon?? No wonder we get along so well! I love your outfit here, especially the creative take on wearing the brooches not on the front of your sweater but the back! I must try that!!

That's so insane it's not funny! I actually had no idea your handle used to be that, but I think that's such an amazing coincidence. We both love to rock some outrageous things at the best of times haha

I don't blame you for not reading having read the series. Enid Blyton books date back to quite a long time ago and I would be hard pressed to find many people of my generation who have read them xx

It's hard for me to describe what my style is too. Sometimes I am very casual and other times I like getting glammed up. I really like your skirt and boots! They are so cute!

Cool shots and very nice outfit, love the bad school girl vibes and the bag, amazing! But what I like the most is the new term you just introduced to me "Fashion Chameleon"! If I were to use a label for my style, I wouldn't mind using that one 🙂

    Love,

Thank you for your kind words Saida. It was really fun shooting this outfit! I'm so glad that you can take away this new term "Fashion Chameleon" and apply it to your style now.

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you can do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but instead of that, this is magnificent blog. A great read. I will certainly be back.
